Job Description

WSP is looking for On Call Early Career Archaeology Field Technicians for project work in Arizona and New Mexico. Selected candidates will work with the Earth & Environment Cultural Resource Team on various projects and may eventually become part of this growing organization.

Responsibilities
  • Work with supervisory field staff and senior archaeologists to complete assigned survey and mitigation tasks such as testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
  • Participate in Class I–Class III assessments and provide avoidance recommendations.
  • Support heritage/cultural resource investigations in compliance with NEPA, NHPA, NAGPRA, and other applicable laws.
  • Travel to project sites in Arizona and New Mexico, with potential future work in adjacent states; per diem will be provided.
  • Collect and prepare digital data for reporting findings; operate various digital data collection software and hardware.
  • Contribute to completion of state IMACS forms.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, History, or related field (MS/MA preferred).
  • 0–1 year professional experience researching, analyzing, developing, and managing archaeological and historic preservation plans, staff, and resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of cultural resource and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of North American archaeology.
  • Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and relevant state laws.
  • Physical ability to conduct pedestrian survey and carry up to 25 lbs of gear; able to survey in hot and dry high‑desert conditions.
  • Willingness to travel to remote project locations, 10‑day rotations, and possibly camp.
  • Must pass background check and WSP’s motor‑vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in the western United States.
  • Large‑scale terrestrial survey project experience.
  • Great Basin and/or Southwestern specific fieldwork experience.
Compensation

Hourly pay rate range: $26.00–$30.00.
