This Opportunity

The successful candidate would provides GIS technical assistance in support of WSP archaeology projects throughout the Southwest.  They would support to all ranges of archaeology staff and project managers by assisting with GIS mapping, converting field data for use in report, spatial data deliverables, and setting up and maintaining project specific ESRI Field Maps and develop tools at the intersection of data conversion, workflow enhancements and advanced reporting.  

The successful candidate would regularly generates shareable GIS documentation, training staff, and contribute to company best practices for quality and data integrity. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of archaeology project workflows for cultural records reviews, surveys, historic property treatment plan development, monitoring, testing, and data recovery in the Western U.S. with emphasis in the U.S. Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and California).

Your Impact

+ Assist with conducting archaeological desktop (cultural records reviews) fieldwork (survey, monitoring, testing and data recovery) including setting up ESRI Field Map projects and supporting hardware to support fieldwork and reporting.

+ Maintains strict quality control standards and shares procedures for mobile field data collection and conversion for use in maps and data supporting records reviews, survey, monitoring, testing and data recovery reports.

+ Regularly train archaeology staff on mobile field data collection procedures and quality standards for staff throughout the Western U.S.

+ Perform professional GIS work relating to conducting archaeological investigations, inspections relating to digital mapping, merging topographical data with external data, identifying the characteristics and conditions of a site, and determining the authenticity of spatial data. Working with state and federal digital databases (e.g.,  AZSITE, NVCRIS, SEGO, and NMCRIS and familiarity with processing data from CHRIS data center requests) as well as obtaining and processing data from state, federal and tribal sources for use in cultural records reviews.

+ Contribute to the preparation of maps and data that contribute to technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, field/work site notes, and GIS data.

+ Assists with researching and illustrating the cultural sites, features and isolated occurrences of project areas as well as maintaining data security related to archaeological projects in accordance with state and federal standards.

+ Assist Principal Investigators and project managers by offering input and analysis with permitting activities and related mitigation strategies.

+ Working within the ESRI ecosystem for map and data development, developing ESRI Field Maps, exporting data for use in AutoCAD and Google Earth Professional as well as converting data for use in ESRI Arc Map.

+ Assists in fieldwork as needed (roughly 15%) with up to 20% travel as required by archaeology support projects.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology or a related field.

+ 3-5 years of relevant post-education experience in discipline and demonstrated GIS experience working with cultural records reviews, surveys, monitoring, testing and data recovery.

+ Demonstrated professional experience with ESRI's Arc GIS platform including AGOL, Field Maps, and Arc Map.

+ Analytical skills and prior experience with research techniques, modeling data, scanning, georeferencing, and digitizing files, and experience maintaining records and databases (Access and Excel) with assigned projects required.

+

Experience with GIS field equipment, configuring Field Maps, Survey 123, and mobile field data collection.

+ Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience. Strong ability to communicate with non-GIS and non-archaeology staff about project requirements, barriers and needs.
