Overview
Jacobs is seeking Staff Archaeologists to support a variety of projects across Arizona, providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to commercial clients. The role may be full‑time or modified full‑time, with frequent travel and 8‑to‑10‑hour days in various conditions.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and conduct professional archaeological field work across all phases, including excavation, GPS mapping (EOS, Field Map, Survey
123), artifact identification and screening. - Provide cultural resources support for projects requiring compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Archeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), and state regulations.
- Collaborate with construction teams and tribal monitors, overseeing construction monitoring activities.
- Produce compliance reports, complete site forms, and maintain accurate field records.
- Work independently in the field and office, maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or Cultural Resource Management.
- Minimum 3+ years of all‑phase professional archaeological field work experience, including in western states.
- Basic knowledge of historic preservation laws and policies, including NEPA, NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and state regulations.
- Experience using GPS technology and GIS mapping applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to walk long periods over rugged terrain, excavate shovel tests, screen soil, and carry field equipment.
- Must be willing to travel frequently and for extended periods.
- Motivated, safety‑conscious, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable working independently in the field and office.
- 5+ years of experience.
- Experience leading field crews.
- Experience conducting research, literature reviews, and cartographic reviews.
- Experience writing compliance reports and completing site forms.
- Background in a consulting environment.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and respond to internal and external clients.
The base salary range is $61,700 to $90,000, depending on location and experience. Eligible employees receive medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, a 401(k) plan, company stock purchase rights, deferred compensation options, and an unlimited U.S. Personalized Paid Time Off policy for full‑time salaried/exempt employees. The role includes seven paid holidays and caregiver leave. Certain positions may be eligible for additional rewards such as merit increases, performance bonuses, and stock.
