North Wind Resource Consulting, incorporated in 2011, specializes in environmental documentation and permitting; natural and cultural resource surveys; wildlife and botanical expertise; NEPA technical services; historic and prehistoric surveys; environmental consultation such as Section 106 for cultural resources, Section 404 for wetlands, and Section 7 for endangered species; and GIS and mapping capabilities. Offices are maintained across the country.

Position Purpose

The Archaeological Technician II will provide in-field and clerical support for projects located within the greater Phoenix area and across Arizona. Experience with Class III archaeological surveys, monitoring, or testing projects is required, including artifact identification, in-field documentation, and site recording knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist Crew Chief or Field Director with survey documentation.
  • Follow North Wind established field protocols.
  • Collect data using GPS units (e.g., Trimble, Garmin, and or IOS Field Collector), take photographs of project area, activities, and artifacts, and identify artifact/feature details.
  • Collect artifact/feature descriptions.
  • Maintain safety awareness and practices for both North Wind and the project at all times.
  • Communicate regularly with North Wind Project Manager, Field Director, and Line Supervisor.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive daily to project areas in Arizona using the North Wind vehicle.
  • Participate in North Wind training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology or related field.
  • Experience in Southwest archaeology and familiarity with agency site recording standards for Arizona.
  • Willingness and ability to work in inclement conditions (e.g., very hot, windy, sunny without shade).
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong work ethic and professional maturity.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various field locations, walk, and conduct fieldwork for long hours across rugged terrain.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (e.g., early mornings, late nights, weekends).
  • Willingness and ability to work in a dynamic setting, consistently achieving high performance standards and a strong team ethic in support of North Wind’s goals.
Special Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project area.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with all necessary endorsements.
  • Must be able to operate a 4‑wheel high‑clearance North Wind vehicle (truck and/or jeep) to complete the work task(s).
  • Applicants must have REAL  compliant documentation at time of hire and no record that would prohibit employment on federal government contracts.

Proof of citizenship will be required as a condition of employment.

Candidates may be required to obtain and hold a Secret or higher U.S. Government clearance.

Physical Demands

This position requires long periods of walking, climbing, standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending for up to 10–12 hours per day. Frequent carrying of a backpack with equipment up to 20 lbs. across uneven terrain.

Working Environment

Work will be performed outdoors in harsh and rapidly changing conditions, including extreme heat or cold environments and uneven terrain. Time may also be spent in the office assisting with report preparation and background research, requiring periods of sitting and computer work.
