Position: General Maintenance Mechanic- PM Shift (Tempe campus)

Serves as a certified trades worker in an area of specialty to ensure proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems.

Job Description

Facilities Management, Residential Facilities, seeks a second shift General Maintenance Mechanic to perform maintenance work in the residence halls. This position is located on the Tempe campus but may require working at other ASU campus locations based on program need.

Essential Duties
  • Electrical maintenance duties: maintain and repair lighting, ballast, lighting switches, receptacles, sockets, tombstones, diffusers including 277 Volt lighting; perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters/volt detectors and circuit tracers; replace damaged or worn outlets including GFCIs.
  • Plumbing maintenance duties: provide plumbing repair and maintenance of restrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, drinking fountains; maintain and rebuild water closet flushometers, urinal flushometers, various faucets and under‑sink supplies; clear all types of drain clogs and stoppages; maintain public restroom toilet and urinal partitions and replace related hardware.
  • Carpentry maintenance duties: maintain and adjust auto door closers; provide interior and exterior door preventive maintenance and replacement of door hardware such as flush bolts, push/pull handles, kick plates, door strikes, hinges, closers, weather stripping, smoke seals, door sweeps; repair and replace several diverse types of flooring; maintain and replace damaged suspended ceiling systems and ceiling tiles; perform small drywall repairs, including paint touch‑up.
  • HVAC maintenance duties: replace air filters; clean coils with a coil comb and flush coils; replace thermostats and sensors.
  • Other duties: provide first response to elevator trouble calls and perform basic troubleshooting of elevator door problems; provide swimming pool maintenance; utilize various hand tools, power tools, and equipment; maintain daily logs/records with computers/tablets; interact effectively with customers and students; work within a team environment; use work order systems (TMA); communicate clearly.
Schedule and Salary

DAYS AND

SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, 4:00 pm – 12:30 am.

Salary: $22.49 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Desired Qualifications

Two years of general maintenance and repair experience.

Experience In
  • Work order systems (TMA)
  • Plumbing installation, repair, and/or maintenance
  • Electrical troubleshooting, repair and/or maintenance
  • Carpentry repair and/or maintenance
  • HVAC troubleshooting, repair, and/or maintenance
  • Swimming pool maintenance/repair
  • Customer service
  • Basic computer usage
  • Working on locks/doors and exit devices
Working Environment
  • Work in and out of private residences maintaining communication with occupants.
  • Utilize specific hand tools and equipment related to essential duties.
  • Lift, bend, and carry up to 80 pounds.
  • Work off ladders, scaffolding, single‑man lifts up to 40 feet.
  • Drive university vehicles.
  • May be exposed to hazardous tools and equipment requiring safety precautions and/or specific process, and may include the use of PPE (e.g., safety glasses). Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.
