Cabling Technician

Summary

Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains voice, data and video cabling systems under direction and supervision of Lead Technician.

• Install Category 3, Category 5, Enhanced Category 5, Category 6 and Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems.
• Install outlets, pull cable, perform fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards.
• Terminate, assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors, coaxial connectors, light crimp connectors and optical fiber ST and/or SC ceramic connectors.
• Test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters using appropriate test equipment.
• Diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems.
• Remove and demolish abandoned cables.
• Maintain and reference industry standards including ANSI, EIA/TIA, BICSI and National Electrical Code.
• Install grounding infrastructure and perform grounding tests.
• Perform cable splices for copper and optical fiber (mechanical and fusion).
• Identify active circuits.
• Attend training and safety meetings.
• Work safely at all times utilizing necessary Personal Protection Equipment.
• Act as “lead” in the absence of Lead Technician if directed.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, cabling standards and components.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Experience and training that enable safe and effective completion of all tasks.

• Associate’s Degree in a related area.
• One year of cabling experience.
• Proficient use of all Microsoft Office applications.
• BICSI Technician certification.

• Ability to work extended hours including evening and weekend overtime as required.
• Availability for on‑call status when needed.
• Compliance with company safety policy and procedures.
• Daily and occasional out‑of‑town travel to work sites.

• Constantly required to sit, talk, see, hear, and use hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stand; move about, climb steps or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Hourly Compensation Range: $23/hr to $30/hr
