Skilled Crafts and Trade Assistant 3 (Non‑Exempt) – Full time. Pay: $23.73 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Job Location & DescriptionFacilities Development and Management (FDM) at Arizona State University seeks a Utility Piping Specialist for the Polytechnic campus. Primary duties involve installation, repair, and maintenance of utility piping, sprinkler, and water systems in newly constructed research buildings, with possible work at other ASU campuses.
Responsibilities- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing and utility piping systems, performing complex and precision work.
- Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand and power tools.
- Inspect mechanical components and use soldering, brazing, and welding tools to fabricate, join, and repair metals and piping.
- Work from drawings and specifications to determine repair sequences.
- Install and maintain sprinkler systems and water/drain lines.
- Prioritize work based on critical needs assessment.
- Assist other trades as needed.
- Work rotating on‑call/stand‑by schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Communicate effectively to perform essential functions of the job.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- One year of lead experience in hospitals, schools, large manufacturing, or commercial/industrial facilities.
- Experience working within research laboratories, clean rooms, high‑bay, or office spaces.
- Knowledge of welding standards (ASME, ASTM) and mechanical operation of pumps, boilers, cooling towers, and chillers.
- Proficiency with plumbing, welding trades tools, and applicable codes.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in dirty, confined, or hazardous environments; use PPE; climb ladders; lift up to 75 pounds; drive a university vehicle.
