Mechanic C - Valley Metro

Job Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance inspections, diagnose and repair minor coach problems; assist other mechanics, and help ensure a work environment that meets safety and regulatory standards.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all types and classes of coaches following vehicle‑specific checklists.
• Base inspections on mileage and days.
• Review repair manuals and part manuals for aids in making minor repairs.
• Perform inspections and repairs of ADA equipment, articulate joint, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire extinguishers, sensitive edges, tires and transmissions.
• Use diagnostic equipment to inspect and verify problems on coaches.
• Clean, repair and replace coach equipment as required under supervision from mechanic A and
  
  B.
• Test coaches for proper working order including road driving tests.
• Fill out work orders specifying parts and labor.
• Assist mechanic A and mechanic B with repair work.
• Sweep and clean work area, maintain general housekeeping, dispose of waste products into proper containment, ensure safe work environment.

• One (1) year progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience.
• Entry‑level understanding of all systems onboard fleet transportation vehicles.
• Component / system understanding: air conditioning, brakes, engine, transmission, suspension & steering, electrical, fuel, lubrication, and differentials.
• Understanding of all preventive maintenance procedures (A, B,
  
  C).
• Proficient use of diagnostic computer equipment.
• Basic understanding of design, adjustment, overhaul of medium to heavy duty braking systems.
• Ability to work amid constant interruptions, prioritize tasks and be detail‑oriented.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to document questions and diagnostic information to management.
• Ability to perform physical activities including working on top of coaches and lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Flexible and capable of working in a 24/7 environment.
• Ability to obtain a CA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with passenger endorsement.
• Must pass a pre‑employment drug test.
• High school diploma or GED; driver’s license required.
• Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars desirable.
• Knowledge and use of proper safety equipment at all times.
• Evidence of a "safety first" attitude.
• Customer‑focused attitude with high professionalism and discretion.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills.
