Laborer; PHX

General Summary

This position is responsible for safely performing various tasks to support daily operations at road/highway sites and construction projects.

• Remove debris and materials, perform daily jobsite housekeeping; maintain a clean, hazard‑free work area; assist with subgrade preparation and basic concrete and asphalt work.
• Shovel, rake, excavate, backfill, compact, and move materials; load and unload tools, equipment, and construction materials; dig trenches or holes as required.
• Operate hand tools and small equipment including, but not limited to, shovels, picks, tampers, saws, jackhammers, drills, and compactors; perform basic inspections and maintenance of tools and equipment; may operate skip loader.
• Perform labor tasks associated with asphalt paving including, but not limited to, shoveling, raking, sweeping.
• Install and maintain barricades, fencing, screening, and other temporary structures; flag and control traffic.
• Conduct grade checks and use basic layout/survey tools such as tape measures, levels, and lasers.
• Assist Carpenters, Masons, Operators, and other trades.
• Other duties as required.

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Years of experience not specified; previous construction experience preferred.

• Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off.
• Ability to work day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
• Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast‑paced and complex environment.
• Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.

• Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand‑eye coordination with ability to grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
• Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.

• Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
• Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct daily.
