Facilities Development and Management seeks a Fire Alarm Technician to install, test, maintain, perform shutdowns, modify and repair fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, and other fire systems. This involves low voltage systems and networks related to fire alarms and sprinkler systems, security systems, and access control systems along with the central monitoring station.

• Analyze blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm, sprinkler, and other electrical systems to determine efficient installation and identify current systems.
• Plan the layout and perform installations of new or remodeled alarm systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of fire alarm components, systems, and related equipment, including starting/stopping equipment, system testing, general cleaning, and removal/installation of service parts.
• Examine, test, troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete necessary repairs to alarms, sensors, system wiring, and computerized alarm monitoring systems.
• Create various reports to document the operation of Fire Alarm Systems.
• View electrical layouts on builder’s blueprints to determine appropriate fire alarm system and ensure compliance with electrical and fire codes.
• Assist with maintenance of computerized fire monitoring systems.
• Provide cost estimates for system installation to requesting departments.
• Install fire alarm system components (panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.) to enhance or upgrade system capabilities.
• Review the work of outside contractors for new sites, upgrades, expansions, major remodels, etc., ensuring projects meet local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and specifications.
• Communicate with other trades (plumbing, electrical) to complete projects/work orders.
• Work with ASU Fire Marshall to ensure completion of inspections.
• Record and document activities performed for coworkers and requesting departments.
• Respond to emergency situations during and after hours to assist emergency responders and resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Use clear communication to perform essential functions.

• High School Diploma and three years (3) of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
• Valid Arizona driver's license of ClassD or higher and clean driving record.
• Ability to respond to calls outside of normal business hours.
• Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.

• Six (6) years of electrical and/or fire alarm/security systems experience, or an equivalent combination.
• NICET LevelI Certification (levelII or higher preferred).
• Experience programming fire alarm systems for troubleshooting and resolution.
• Experience working with a variety of fire alarm systems.
• Programming and troubleshooting of computer and device networks.

• NFPA
  72 and NFPA
  25 fire alarm systems and central station systems testing and maintenance.
• Simplex, EdwardsEST3, JCI, FCI, Notifier system, DACT dialers, and DACR central station receivers.

• NICET levelII or higher Fire Alarm Systems Certification.
• EST3 Series Certification Fire & Life Safety Technician or General Electrician Certification.
• Professional membership in the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).
• Effective communication skills to perform essential job functions.

Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 75pounds; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching; and fine finger dexterity. Typically involves sitting, walking, and standing. Work may occur under temperature extremes and confined spaces. Use of hand and power tools, ladders, testing devices, and safety/protection devices such as fall protection and personal protective equipment (PPE) is common. Use of PPE may require medical clearance.
