Lead Communications Technician

The Lead Communications Technician will act as the on‑site coordinator and crew supervisor for voice and data installation projects. The Lead Communications Technician’s responsibilities include ensuring job completion according to company and customer quality and safety requirements while maintaining the efficiency of the assigned staff.

Compensation: $35.00–$40.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Run major project crews and provide necessary training.
  • Assume responsibility for performance, safety, and quality guidelines, and hold weekly safety meetings.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure productivity, job completion, and compliance with project budgets.
  • Complete all IES commercial and project paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.).
  • Perform quality checks, coordinate moves and cut sheets for voice and data cross‑connects, and prepare red‑lined as‑built drawings.
  • Serve as the main on‑site customer contact for questions and concerns; attend facility and construction meetings as required.
  • Demonstrate detailed technical knowledge, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise others.
  • Proficiency in using listed tools and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and project documents.
  • Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
  • Valid driving record meeting company minimum standards.
Physical & Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Good vision for color discrimination, reading small print, and good hearing for audible signals.
  • Ability to travel within the branch and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
Tools
  • Screwdrivers (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves.
  • Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, tone set, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.
