Job DescriptionServes as a certified trades worker in an area of specialty ensuring proper installation, modification, and repair of related systems in the residential facilities on Tempe campus and other ASU locations as needed.
Essential Duties- Maintain and repair lighting, ballast, lighting switches, sockets, tombstones, diffusers including 277 Volt lighting; perform electrical troubleshooting with multi‑meters and circuit tracers; replace damaged or worn outlets including GFCIs.
- Provide plumbing repair and maintenance for restrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, drinking fountains; rebuild flushometers, repair faucets and under‑sink supplies; clear drains; maintain toilet and urinal partitions and hardware.
- Maintain and adjust auto door closers; perform interior and exterior door preventative maintenance and replace door hardware (flush bolts, handles, kick plates, hinges, closers, weather stripping, smoke seals, door sweeps); repair flooring; replace suspended ceiling systems and tiles; perform small drywall repairs and paint touch‑ups.
- Replace air filters, clean coils, flush coils, replace thermostats and sensors.
- Provide first‑response to elevator trouble calls, perform basic troubleshooting of elevator door problems; provide swimming‑pool maintenance.
- Use hand tools, power tools, equipment; maintain daily logs with computers/tablets; interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds; work within a team environment; use electronic work order system (TMA); communicate clearly.
- Two years general maintenance and repair experience or equivalent combination of experience/education.
- Valid US driver’s license and required endorsements; may require EPA Type 1 refrigeration license.
- Experience with TMA work order systems, plumbing installation/repair, electrical troubleshooting, carpentry, HVAC, swimming pool maintenance, customer service, basic computer usage, locks/doors and exit devices.
- Effective communication skills.
- Work in/ out of private residences maintaining communication with occupants.
- Use hand tools, equipment; lift up to 80 pounds; work on ladders/scaffolding, single‑man lifts up to 40 feet.
- Drive university vehicles; potential exposure to hazardous tools requiring safety precautions and PPE (e.g., safety glasses).
- PPE use may require medical clearance.
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
SALARY RATE$21.49 per hour.
