Overview
Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward‑thinking talent to support our fast‑growing HVAC business in North America. The role involves working on light and heavy commercial teams using advanced commercial and industrial equipment.
Responsibilities- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
- Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing solutions and outcomes during commissioning and aftermarket service.
- Provide quotes and promote upselling opportunities to improve facility efficiency.
- Partner with Journeymen on repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, absorption machines, open‑drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems.
- Use vibration equipment and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot drive lines and mechanical failures.
- Travel for branch customer activities, troubleshooting, installation, and repair (10%‑20% of the time).
- Maintain safety training certifications for ammonia and hydrocarbon systems.
- Participate in the Service Technical Academy (STA) for factory certification and career advancement.
- Provide on‑the‑job training to local market mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices.
- Write and communicate customer reports detailing problems, causes, and corrective actions.
- Maintain and update quotes and pricing for customers.
- Prioritize safety in all activities and procedures.
Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver’s license required.
- Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
- Dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and take responsibility for system troubleshooting, repair, and aftermarket services.
- Minimum of eight (8) years commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC, industrial petrochemical, or data center environments, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
- Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
- Able to install complete systems (chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical systems).
- Proficient in mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, etc. for pumps, fans, and compressors.
- Proficient in using vibration equipment to troubleshoot drive lines.
- Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
- Willingness to invest in career development through training programs to gain knowledge in HVAC products and sales quoting.
- Experience working with local market mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices, providing on‑the‑job training when necessary.
- Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills.
- Able to provide quotes to customers and participate in JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
- Self‑starter with a passion for learning and applying skills on the job.
- Prioritize safety in all activities.
- Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver’s license.
- This is a Bargaining Unit Position.
Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. This is a Bargaining Unit Position and is subject to all pre‑hiring screening of JCI. With successful performance, JCI may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program and continued employment eptance by Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or will result in termination of this position.
