ABM Industries is seeking a Test Technician II to join our Electrical Power Services team in Tempe, Arizona. This position is responsible for performing inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning activities on electrical power distribution equipment across commercial, industrial, government, data center, semiconductor, utility, and mission-critical facilities. The Test Technician II will perform field testing and maintenance of electrical equipment including breakers, transformers, protective devices, substations, and medium-voltage systems while maintaining strict adherence to OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards.
This role requires a technician capable of working independently on routine testing assignments while supporting customers throughout Arizona and occasional projects throughout the western United States. The ideal candidate will possess NETA II certification or equivalent experience and demonstrate a strong foundation in electrical testing and power system maintenance. Essential Functions
- Perform acceptance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning testing on electrical power distribution equipment.
- Conduct testing and maintenance of:
- Low- and medium-voltage switch gear
- Circuit breakers
- Power and distribution transformers
- Medium-voltage and low-voltage cable systems
- Protective relays
- Substation equipment
- Battery systems
- Grounding systems
- Automatic transfer switches
- Perform substation testing and electrical system diagnostics.
- Collect and coordinate transformer oil sampling and related testing activities.
- Analyze test results and identify abnormal conditions requiring corrective action.
- Prepare and complete PowerDB reports and other required testing documentation.
- Read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and company safety procedures.
- Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-job safety planning activities.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to project managers, supervisors, and customers.
- Support outage work, emergency response assignments, and scheduled shutdowns as required.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior technicians.

Projects are primarily located throughout Arizona with additional support for customers in California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, and Texas as business needs require.
Travel Requirements- Daily travel within approximately a 50-mile radius of the Tempe office.
- Estimated travel requirement of 10–15%, depending on project assignments.
- Company vehicle provided.
- Travel per diem provided in accordance with company policy.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- NETA Level II Certification or equivalent electrical testing experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, field service, industrial maintenance, or power systems.
- Experience testing and troubleshooting:
- Circuit breakers
- Transformers
- Medium-voltage cable systems
- Low-voltage cable systems
- Protective relays
- Substation equipment
- Experience preparing or working with PowerDB reports.
- Working knowledge of electrical theory, AC/DC systems, and power distribution equipment.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements.
- Ability to safely operate electrical test equipment and diagnostic instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and electronic reporting systems.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
