Position: Part Time Crossing Guard (0.375 FTE) - Ward Traditional Academy
TITLE: Crossing Guard

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide assistance to children crossing the street. Maintain children's safety in traffic.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • State of Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • No previous experience required
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this class.)

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assist children crossing streets.
    • Move 15-mph zone and school crossing signs into and out of the street.
    • Utilize proper hand signs as required.
    • Adhere to regulations and guidelines governing school crossings.
    • Ensure safety of pedestrians using assigned cross walks.
    • Report problems with students or traffic.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    • Knowledge of traffic regulations pertaining to school and pedestrian crossings
    • Knowledge of traffic control devices
    • Skill in interacting with the public, especially children
    • Ability to communicate orally
    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Exposure to traffic hazards

    Potential physical harm

    Exposure to outdoor elements

    PHYSICAL EFFORT:

    May be required to move signs weighing up to 25 lbs. into and out of the street.
