The Case Investigator
- Coordinator in the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) provides thoughtful expertise to support student persistence and success. This position plays a significant role with the retention and success of students primarily via the determination of low- to mid-level alleged violations of the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) Student Code of Conduct. The Case Investigator
- Coordinator engages with students, peers, and other members of the ASU community, with the goal of maintaining an environment that encourages reasoned discourse, intellectual honesty, openness to constructive change, and respect for the rights of all. The Case Investigator
- Coordinator may investigate individual student cases, student organization cases, sexual misconduct cases, and any other cases that come before the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. This position reports to the Assistant or Associate Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities on the Tempe campus.
Essential Duties:
- Investigates alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct with an emphasis on student development and a focus on allegations of low- to mid-level violations.
- Monitors the progress of assigned cases to provide students the opportunity to consider the ways in which their conduct may define and impact their college experience, personally, and in relation to others
- Ensures students understand their rights and responsibilities and applying appropriate administrative actions, educational interventions, and/or disciplinary sanctions
- Ensures a complete investigative process while maintaining detailed letters and records, including the creation of comprehensive written investigative reports
- Collaborates with the Dean of Students, Office of General Counsel, Title IX Coordinator, Provost, University Rights and Responsibilities, ASU Police Department, Counseling, Student Advocacy and Assistance, Athletics, Academic Partners, and community partners to aid in a student's personal development through the conduct process
- Serves as a liaison to ASU Housing staff in the administration of conduct cases from campus residential facilities, including providing guidance and support in all aspects of the ASU conduct system
- Provides ongoing trainings, consultations, and policy interpretations to students, faculty, staff and community members in relation to the ABOR Student Code of Conduct and the conduct process
- Performs other duties or projects, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to student conduct and student learning and development
- Skill in problem solving and decision-making. Skill in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities
- Skill in program design and development
- Skill in both verbal and written communication
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Working Environment:
- Professionally represent department/program
- Work collaboratively across various departments within the University as well as with diverse populations and groups
- Develop and deliver presentations to groups
- Use computers effectively - including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen, and using mouse and keyboard
- Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data
- Research, develop, implement and assess programs
- Supervise students and/or staff
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to perform essential duties
- Work collaboratively to achieve objectives
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
