Backend Developer, Software Engineer
Fox Digital Video Platform team seeks a Sr Video Player Engineer, Roku to design and implement core video player features for consumer‑facing applications across all of Fox’s networks.
Inside this role, you will build video playback solutions in an extremely fast‑paced environment, taking ownership across the entire software delivery process.
Primary Responsibilities- Work closely with Engineering/Product/Project Management and Backend Technology Services teams to build video player features for FOX video streaming initiatives.
- Conduct the design, architecture and implementation of player features on Roku.
- Work on performance, scalability, security, architecture and engineering best practices.
- Provide technical specifications and documentation.
- Collaborate with team members to deliver software using agile methodologies.
- Stay up‑to‑date with emerging technologies/trends on Roku.
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Excellent programming skills in BrightScript.
- Deep understanding of Scene Graph framework and task/render thread optimization.
- Demonstrable knowledge of building responsive user experiences.
- Experience with RESTful APIs, unit testing and end‑to‑end testing.
- Proficiency with Git, SVN, Jenkins, Docker, and agile methodologies.
- Excellent documentation skills; UML diagrams a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with a cross‑functional team.
- Experience with video streaming technologies (HLS).
- Experience with video QoE metrics, A algorithms, Roku Media Player.
- Experience with analytics platforms (Conviva, Segment).
- Coaching and educational support for other software engineers.
- Participation in Tier 3 on‑call rotation for services you develop and operate.
Pay range: $ - $ annually, with final offer based on education, skills, experience, and location. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with plan documents. Benefits for union‑represented employees will follow the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
