Subject to supervision, performs semi‑skilled work associated with loading, unloading and operation of vehicles and related auxiliary equipment incidental to loading, hauling and/or work assignments. Equipment operated includes single or multi‑axle truck or truck and trailer combinations not to exceed the 26,100 pound Federal DOT requirements.
Responsibilities- Drives vehicles to various locations, transporting and delivering materials, supplies, machinery, and equipment of all types, sizes and shapes.
- Safely and competently operates equipment incidental to loading, hauling, and/or other related work assignments.
- Attaches and transfers trailers, trailer‑mounted equipment and other trailable units.
- Loads and unloads various materials, supplies, and equipment as necessary.
- Prepares trucks and trailers for loading, properly secures loads for transport and affixes all flags, signs and placards required by DOT and SRP rules and regulations.
- Operates trailer‑mounted equipment towed to the jobsite for the purpose of performing the assigned tasks.
- Performs minor repairs and reports maintenance requirements.
- Documents daily pre‑trip and post‑operation inspections of vehicles, trailers and equipment as required by DOT and SRP rules and regulations to assure proper operating and safe hauling conditions. Includes all other operational records.
- Observes safety and security procedures. Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines. Reports potentially unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Responsible to work with management to achieve overtime, budget and other departmental objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
Experience as a Material Handler, Operator, or Trades helper or equivalent experience.
Additional Requirements and QualificationsSubject to out‑of‑town work, call‑outs and changing shifts. Requires considerable physical exertion and dexterity to handle equipment, load trucks and use hand tools. Must exercise independent judgment in the safe and efficient hauling operations. Must be willing to learn and understand the use and application of computers and computer‑based systems.
Testing and CertificationsMust possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
Hybrid WorkplaceSRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
