POSITION SCOPE

Director of
Transportation Risk & Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading Fisher Industries' enterprise transportation risk management program across all operating companies. Working closely with the EHS Safety Director, this role establishes transportation safety strategy, policies, standards, and governance while ensuring consistent execution across the organization.

Fisher Industries operates a fleet of more than 900 vehicles, including approximately 250 semi-trucks, 650 light-duty vehicles, and over 600 trailers. This position provides oversight of transportation safety, regulatory compliance, fleet maintenance governance, driver qualification programs, hazardous materials transportation, accident investigations, risk analytics, and a fleet telematics platform.

Travel up to 50% is required.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Develop and maintain the enterprise Transportation Risk Management System.
  • Establish and implement transportation policies, procedures, and operating standards across all operating companies.
  • Develop transportation risk strategies aligned with business objectives and operational goals.
  • Manage the Lytx fleet camera and video telematics platform.
  • Present transportation safety and risk performance metrics to executive leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Oversee CSA performance, inspection trends, violations, corrective actions, and regulatory audit readiness.
  • Develop and standardize fleet maintenance programs, preventive maintenance expectations, and maintenance performance standards.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement required program updates.
  • Oversee Driver Qualification, Hours-of-Service, and Drug & Alcohol compliance programs.
  • Develop driver onboarding, training, coaching, and accountability programs.
  • Implement operational risk controls for transportation activities.
  • Oversee hazardous materials transportation programs, including shipping documentation, placarding, employee training, emergency response, and security requirements.
  • Develop auditing processes and compliance verification procedures.
  • Lead serious transportation incident response and accident investigations.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and oversee corrective action implementation.
  • Support insurance carriers, legal counsel, and regulatory investigations.
  • Analyze claims, crashes, telematics, maintenance, and inspection data to identify trends and reduce risk.
  • Lead and develop transportation safety personnel.
  • Provide guidance and support to safety leaders across operating companies.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Human Resources, Risk Management, and Executive Leadership to promote safe and efficient transportation operations.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Extensive experience leading transportation safety and risk management programs for multi-location operations.
  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, CSA methodology, fleet maintenance programs, hazardous materials transportation, driver qualification requirements, and Hours-of-Service regulations.
  • Experience conducting serious accident investigations and implementing corrective action programs.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, identify risk, and drive operational improvements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence operational leaders and drive organizational change.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Transportation, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional safety or transportation certifications preferred.
  • Experience with in heavy civil construction, mining, aggregate, trucking, or related industries preferred.
