FUNDING SOURCE: 435 - RDSPD Funds with a purpose of serving and supporting DHH students as outlined in the IEP.
SUMMARY
Supervise and coordinate the deaf education program and support services on all RDSPD (Regional Day School Program for the Deaf) campuses throughout the district. Provide instructional leadership to ensure quality programming within the special education, deaf education, and general education classrooms where students who are deaf and hard of hearing are being served. Monitor compliance of federal and state legislation regarding Special/Deaf Education programming.

Serve as liaison between Temple ISD, sending districts, and the RDSPD program. Support training in all areas related to deaf and hard of hearing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

* Monitor the implementation, progress, and evaluation of IEPs for students receiving special/deaf education.

* Collaborate and consult with special education director regarding instructional methods, budgeting, recruiting/hiring, and quality of service delivery, new referrals, reevaluations, training, staff assignments, and other special issues/concerns.

* Coordinate all administrative and budget activities related to the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) according to the guidelines established in the Shared Services Arrangement between the district and RDSPD.

* Collaborate with central office administration and special education director regarding needs of the RDSPD program.

* Work collaboratively with administrators and campuses to establish exemplary deaf education learning environments.

* Monitor evaluations/improvement plans and staff scheduling as well as implementing teaching techniques and strategies that result in positive student behavior and improved academic performance.

* Facilitate PLCs and professional learning to inform staff regarding new policies and procedures.

* Conduct classroom/on-site visits to observe staff (T-TESS) and discuss instructional strategies and ways for improving individual student achievement.

* Consult and contact sending district's administrators in special education regarding referrals, extra-curricular interpreting services, IEP meeting schedules, attendance, progress, and any changes in transportation scheduling due to holidays or inclement weather.

* Assist in processing and communicating referrals for RDSPD services, collaborating with other districts, and attending IEP meetings in other districts.

* Provide parents with enrollment information and conduct site visit with prospective parent/districts as appropriate.

* Assists in the revision of special education forms and procedures.

* Exemplify and develop positive interpersonal relationships among the teachers, students, staff and other personnel.

* Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Superintendent.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in supervision of Regional Day School personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree, Master's degree preferred, 5 years of experience in deaf education or special education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to effectively communicate orally, in writing, or signing to a variety of audiences including conferences with parents, community service providers, district staff, chairing committee meetings, preparing written student evaluations, preparing written reports regarding program implementation/recommendations, preparing policies and procedures, and conducting staff development activities.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

* Ability to perform basic math

* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITIES

* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

* Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Texas Teacher certification to include Teacher for the Deaf or Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Preferred
T-TESS certification - Preferred Principal certifications Preferred.
