Schedule: Variable PRN/PT Schedule. Must be available from 7:00a – 3:00p, Monday – Friday, rotating weekends and holidays. Ability to work on call required. Call:
Must be present/onsite within 30 minutes of call. On‑call rotation is shared equally among all staff perfusionists.
Education: Bachelor’s degree and graduate of an accredited Perfusion Program required
Certification/License: Cert Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) and Licensed Perfusionist (PERFUSIO) - Texas Medical Board, required at time of hire/transfer
Experience: 1 year of intermediate level perfusion experience. Desire to teach, train cardiology fellows, and share perfusion knowledge during clinical rotations.

Provides patient care by operating extracorporeal circulation equipment during medical situations. Supports or replaces cardiopulmonary, circulatory, or respiratory function. Selects appropriate equipment and techniques for treatment. Monitors, examines, and treats physiologic conditions under physician supervision.
Essential Functions- Monitors the altered circulatory process, initiates appropriate action, and informs the surgeon and team.
- Ensures sterility and integrity of disposable equipment; ensures correct setup and breakdown of all equipment.
- Monitors cell saver and operates the heart-lung machine, blood gas analysis, clotting time/heparin analyzer, and cardiac‑assist devices.
- Mixes and administers drugs and solutions for myocardial preservation following best practices and policies.
- Adjusts gas flow and mixtures; administers anesthetic agents, blood, drugs, and fluids via the extracorporeal circuit.
- Records relevant perfusion information during surgery and maintains records after surgery.
- Performs quality control/preventive maintenance and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry.
- Knowledge of cardiac diseases, defects, and congenital anomalies.
- Knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies: extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, cannulae for adult, pediatric, and infant patients.
- Knowledge of arteries, veins, organs, and blood flow paths; understanding pressures and gas exchange across patient populations.
- Knowledge of blood components, plasma, and use of blood products with extracorporeal circuits.
- Skill in operating extracorporeal circulation and autotransfusion equipment.
- Verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow orders and written perfusion protocols.
- Ability to communicate clearly during operation of extracorporeal support devices and patient care.
- Learn and apply JCAHO, CDC, and AABB standards for operating room procedures.
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a cohesive team.
- Ability to react calmly in stressful situations.

Qualifications- Education:
Bachelor's - Experience:
2 years of experience - Certification/Registration: CCP and PERFUSIO;
Basic Life Support (BLS) required or BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer
Cert Clinical Perfusionist (CCP)
