The Cardiac Device Tech 1 manages implanted cardiac devices such as ICDs, pacemakers, and ILRs. The role evaluates these devices for outpatients, inpatients, and procedure areas, performs pacemaker testing and remote monitoring, interprets data, identifies life‑threatening cardiac issues requiring referral to EP or cardiac services, and educates patients and families on device management and follow‑up.

• Serves as a resource to physicians and practice staff about device patients and services.
• Assesses the condition and appearance of the implant site and documents any abnormality.
• Interrogates, interprets, and re‑programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.
• Ensures charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
• Troubleshoots critical device issues and takes immediate steps toward resolution, partnering with physicians and documenting device testing in EMR.
• Educates patients on all aspects of device management, including remote monitoring and follow‑up protocol.
• Provides mentorship and training to junior staff in cardiac device interrogation policies and procedures and teaches arrhythmia recognition to ensure safe testing methods.
• Promotes a healthy clinical environment, maintains good working relationships, and participates in proactive inter‑ and intra‑departmental communication.
• Maintains equipment in good working condition and reports problem areas or safety issues.
• Ensures programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure efficient and accurate interpretation.
• A certificate of completion from an approved device technical school (e.g., Arrhythmia Technical Institute) is preferred.
• Completion of rhythm interpretation and management education program (internal or external accepted).
• Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and proficiency in ECG interpretation preferred.
• Basic computer skills and electronic management of medical records.
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches.
• Preferred to obtain IBMHE certification within 2 years of experience.
• Completion of internal Cardiac Device knowledge check required for Cardiac Device Trainee position.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English; required corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

  Minimum 1 year of experience.
• Certification:
  Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
