Summary:

The Therapeutic Medical Physicist I, under the direction of the Director of Medical Physics, performs technical aspects of safe and effective radiation therapy delivery to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes for patients. This role involves quality assurance testing, radiation treatment planning, dosimetric measurements, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You will join a dynamic, patient-focused Radiation Oncology team in a facility that is both a tertiary referral center and a primary healthcare provider, committed to research, teaching, and excellence in clinical care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage quality assurance testing of treatment-related systems (linear accelerator, brachytherapy, CT, treatment planning).
  • Supervise radiation treatments requiring physicist presence.
  • Perform and evaluate computer-aided planning/calculations for external beam and brachytherapy.
  • Conduct patient-related dosimetric measurements for treatment quality.
  • Consult with oncologists, staff, and patients as needed.
  • Participate in acceptance and commissioning of new treatment modalities.
  • Ensure compliance with state/federal regulations and licensing standards.
  • Maintain continuing education, licensure, and certifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Science or DMP in Medical Physics (minimum).
  • Licensed or temporarily licensed as a Medical Physicist in the State of Texas.
  • Less than 1 year of professional experience in Medical Physics (entry-level welcome).
  • Strong knowledge of QA testing, clinical workflow, and radiation treatment systems.
  • Strong communication and professional skills.
  • Ability to work independently and occasionally on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Medical Physics.
  • Prior hands-on clinical experience in radiation oncology.
  • Demonstrated experience with new treatment modality commissioning.
