Overview
Position Type:
Full Time Regular. Education Level: High School Diploma or GED.
Location:
Temple, TX. This opportunity centers on resident support in a shelter environment, including intake procedures, safety monitoring, and maintaining orderly facilities.
- Assist residents overnight in the Corps shelter; perform client intake procedures and maintain intake records; monitor resident activity on assigned shifts to ensure safety, security, and compliance with house rules; maintain accurate records and logs; keep the facility neat and orderly.
- Ensure clients comply with house rules; perform baggage checks for drugs, alcohol, weapons, and pornography; record incidents and notify a supervisor of any special circumstances or unusual problems; secure the facility and clients; arm and disarm alarms in accordance with lodge policy; secure areas inappropriate for client entry.
- Conduct routine facility checks to ensure doors are locked and no issues are present; ensure security of the facilities by locking doors as needed.
- Respond to emergencies calmly and initiate actions in line with established policies and procedures.
- Perform client intake procedures including screening for sex offenders; check clients into the shelter; prepare and monitor intake cards; maintain the resident roster.
- Assign daily cooking, cleaning, and maintenance chores to clients; participate in cleaning and maintenance of facilities, supplies, and equipment as needed; inspect the facility routinely to ensure compliance with established standards; manage return and accountability of Salvation Army property (e.g., linens).
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English effectively.
- Ability to perform data entry into a computer.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
- Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent basis; distance of travel is usually within the same building.
- Limited physical effort required, including walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 30 lbs) occasionally.
- Work is performed in a residential facility with minimal discomfort due to weather or noise, dust, or dirt.

High school diploma or GED required, AND
- One year of prior experience performing security or social services work in a shelter or similar environment, OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid State Driver’s License (Preferred)
- Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
- CPR or First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
