Installation Technician, Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
The Foreman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role works at various locations and may require travel to other states depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized overhead lines.
- Coach crew members and possess leadership and management skills.
- Lead and train lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures.
- Teach hot‑stick work on energized lines and conduct pre‑job or tailgate briefings.
- Apply a working knowledge of all aspects of line work, including stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switch gear.
- Troubleshoot and supervise troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems.
- Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Work with energized high‑voltage systems while protecting lives.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Perform rigorous physical labor and identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits.
- Recognize induced voltage, properly sag wire, phase circuits through substations, and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Understand grounding procedures and operate in heights and confined spaces.
- Use PPE correctly and climb various structures with appropriate tools.
- Operate equipment safely, phase out lines with phasing sticks, plan safe work based on job prints or work orders, obtain one‑shot on a recloser, perform reconductoring, and safely install/remove mechanical jumpers.
- Use a load bust tool, ask for and accept line clearances, and follow flag and tag procedures.
- Work outdoors, often in inclement weather.
- Perform any other related duties required to complete the job.
- At least 5 years of recent field experience.
- Effective reading and communication skills in English.
- Coordinate and inspect crew work.
- Travel long distances on short notice, if required.
- Work extended periods at various locations, if required.
- Lift objects in excess of 50 lbs.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
- Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required paperwork.
- Possess a CDL and demonstrate safe driving.
- Work overtime and outside normal hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Regular speaking, hearing, standing, walking, using hands to fingers, handling, feeling, and reaching with hands and arms.
Work EnvironmentFrequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, extreme conditions, loud noise, and various weather conditions at construction job sites.
