PRIMARY PURPOSE

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of all district facilities. Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electronic locking systems, door hardware, and key control systems.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education/Certification
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
  • Special Knowledge/Skills
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
    • Knowledge of basic construction, routine maintenance, and repair procedures
    • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
    • Ability to operate hand and power tools
    • Ability to work independently
    • Strong knowledge of master key system design and management
    • Understanding of fire‑rated door assemblies and life‑safety compliance
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience
    • One year of experience in general building maintenance
    • One year of commercial or institutional locksmith experience
    • Experience in a school district, government, or large facility environment preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES LOCK & HARDWARE MAINTENANCE
  • Install, repair, and replace various types of locks, including cylindrical, mortise, panic hardware, and deadbolts
  • Maintain and repair door closers, exit devices, and related door hardware
  • Service and maintain high‑security and electronic access control systems – keypads, card readers, etc.
KEY CONTROL & SECURITY
  • Maintain master key systems across all campuses and facilities
  • Cut keys by code or duplication and manage district‑wide key inventory
  • Maintain accurate and secure records of key assignments and hardware using district systems
  • Enforce strict key control procedures, including issuance, tracking, and recovery of keys
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
  • Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass
  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs
  • Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment
  • Complete repairs as directed on work orders or by the maintenance foreman
  • Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed
SAFETY
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate equipment and use tools in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
