Summer Intern Program (Multiple Departments)
DATES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Current college junior or senior at an accredited college or university
* Major in a relevant field (e.g., finance, business administration, accounting, human resources, education, educational leadership, public administration, information technology, computer science, or related discipline)
* Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a public-sector setting
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
* Interest in public education, public service, or educational leadership
OVERVIEW:
The Tenafly Public Schools Summer Intern Program provides college students with the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in public education and public-sector administration. Interns will work closely with district leadership and professional staff on projects aligned to district priorities, gaining exposure to the operational, instructional, and strategic functions that support student learning and organizational effectiveness.
Internship placements are available in the following areas:
* Finance / Business Administration
* Human Resources / Labor Relations
* Technology
* Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
While specific assignments will vary by department, interns may:
* Assist with research, data analysis, and reporting related to district initiatives
* Support day-to-day departmental operations and special projects
* Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and professional learning opportunities
* Prepare written summaries, presentations, and documentation
* Observe and engage in public-sector decision-making processes
* Apply academic coursework to real-world educational and administrative challenges
DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC FOCUS AREAS:
Finance / Business Administration
* Support budget development, financial reporting, and account reconciliation
* Assist with purchasing, contracts, and grants documentation
* Analyze financial data and prepare summaries for administrative review
* Learn about public school finance, NJDOE requirements, and fiscal controls
Human Resources / Labor Relations
* Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and personnel file management
* Support data tracking related to staffing, leave usage, and certifications
* Learn about collective negotiations agreements and labor relations practices
* Observe HR processes related to employee relations, compliance, and policy
Technology
* Support district technology initiatives and system implementations
* Assist with inventory management, device deployment, or user support
* Participate in data systems, cybersecurity awareness, and instructional technology projects
* Gain exposure to technology planning in a K12 public education environment
Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction
* Assist with curriculum review, instructional initiatives, and professional development planning
* Support data analysis related to student performance and program evaluation
* Observe district and school-level leadership meetings
* Learn about instructional supervision, assessment, and curriculum alignment
WORK SCHEDULE:
* Hours and schedule to be determined based on departmental needs and intern availability
* Hybrid or in-person work may be required depending on assignment
PAY RATE: $20 per hour
