Location: Summertown

Summertown Metals is looking for a self-motivated individual to work in our Contracting Department acquiring Permits. This is a full‑time position which includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, STD, LTD, 401K with a company match, vacation and PTO.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Research and obtain building permits for every project to ensure construction schedules stay on track.
  • Regularly communicate with Project Managers to stay informed on upcoming projects and deadlines, ensuring permits are secured before they are needed.
  • Proactively follow up with permitting offices to expedite approvals when necessary.
  • Develop and maintain an organized database with detailed permit requirements for all service regions.
  • Include critical information such as zoning laws, building codes, required documentation, associated fees, and typical timelines for approval.
  • Keep the database updated with any changes in regulations or processes to ensure accuracy.
3. Regulatory Compliance
  • Verify that every project in Buildertrend has the required permits attached for quick and easy reference by Project Managers.
  • Regularly review permit documentation to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Address any discrepancies or missing permits promptly to avoid compliance issues.
  • Act as the main point of contact between Summertown Metals and permitting offices, ensuring clear and professional communication.
  • Represent the company in a positive manner by maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Provide regular updates to sales, construction teams, and Project Managers on the status of permits and any challenges encountered.
5. Process Improvement
  • Identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies in the permit acquisition process and propose solutions to optimize workflow.
  • Implement strategies to reduce the time and costs associated with acquiring permits without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of new processes, adjusting as needed to continuously improve.
  • Manage the company credit card, ensuring all permit-related charges are documented and reconciled monthly.
  • Reconcile purchases and maintain detailed records for accounting purposes.
  • Utilize the company checkbook for permit-related payments as needed, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of all transactions.
