We are specializing in delivering high-quality steel construction solutions for commercial, industrial, healthcare, and educational projects. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Steel Erection Estimator to join our growing pre-construction team.
The Steel Erection Estimator is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the bid and estimating process for structural steel erection projects. This role involves reviewing project documents, blueprints, and specifications to develop accurate, competitive, and value-driven cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel erection, familiarity with AISC standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, vendors, and clients to ensure successful project bids.
Project Analysis & Takeoffs:
Analyze blueprints, construction drawings, and detailed project specifications to determine the scope of work. Prepare comprehensive and accurate takeoffs of materials, labor, buyout items, and equipment costs.
Cost Estimation & Bidding:
Develop competitive cost estimates and proposals for heavy structural steel projects (often exceeding 1,000 tons). Provide a full document trail and comprehensive bid packages for review by senior management.
Coordination & Communication:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate project cost forecasting. Coordinate with other departments to seamlessly transition projects from the pre-construction phase to the construction phase.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure competitive pricing and ensure the availability of materials.
Budget & Schedule Monitoring:
Monitor project budgets and schedules, identify discrepancies between estimated and actual costs, and recommend adjustments to ensure projects stay within budget and timeline.
Site Visits & Pre-Bid Meetings:
Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits as necessary to gather data and ensure accurate project cost estimates.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all estimates and project plans comply with current AISC structural codes, company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred (equivalent work experience may be considered). Minimum of 3 to 5 years of estimating experience specifically within the structural steel industry (fabrication and erection
Proven experience working on heavy commercial, healthcare, industrial, or large-scale structural steel construction projects.
Thorough understanding of the construction bid process and the ability to accurately read and interpret contract documents, architectural, and structural drawings.
Proficiency in construction estimating and takeoff software such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Pro Est, Planswift, or Tekla EPFamiliarity with 3D modeling and detailing software such as Revit Structures, Tekla Structures, or AutoCAD is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of current AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) codes and standards.
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
Exceptional mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Outstanding attention to detail and organizational capabilities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to function effectively in a team environment and build relationships with clients and vendors.
Excellent time management skills, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
