Compensation: $250,000 - $325,000/yr
At Core Civic, we do more than manage inmates; we care for people. We are currently seeking Physicians who have a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting.
The Physician provides professional medical direction, oversight, and direct patient care in a correctional facility.
The successful applicant should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job requirements:
- Provide a variety of professional medical services to inmates/residents, including examinations, diagnosing medical problems, prescribing medications, and providing treatment and follow-up care.
- Provide leadership for the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor.
- Monitor and review operations and standards of care delivered to inmates/residents.
- Interview inmates/residents and make decisions on admissions.
- Make clinical rounds.
- Participate in treatment team meetings where individual health plans are devised, reviewed, and modified.
- Direct unit treatment operations.
- Perform minor surgeries and occasional major surgeries if necessary.
- Hold clinics for nursing specialists to assist in diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions.
- Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.
- Utilize established policies and procedures, exercising sound independent judgment.
- Assist in formulating facility policy for medical services.
- Motivate and encourage staff to perform duties in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Evaluate medical services to prevent misuse or duplication.
- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early releases when appropriate.
- Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.
- Maintain and review medical records, reports, and logs, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation.
- Audit medical files for documentation accuracy.
- Recommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Meet with outside hospital and agency administrators to ensure collaborative relationships.
- Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by ensuring organizational efficiency and quality medical services.
- Accept on-call status as required.
- Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Provide health counseling and education to individuals or groups.
- Communicate responsibilities and expectations clearly to subordinates.
- Conduct staff meetings and promote effective communication.
- Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public, demonstrating tact and professionalism.
- Read and interpret technical procedures, regulations, legal, and medical documents.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited medical school.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Minimum age: 18 years old.
