5th-6th Grade STEM / Middle School RTI Lead Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the 5th and 6th grade STEM teacher should be a dedicated and visionary teacher who leads our middle school students through a rigorous, inquiry‑based exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This role is central to our mission of fostering critical thinking and technological literacy during the pivotal transition from elementary to secondary education.

The Response to Intervention Lead is responsible for ensuring that the intervention program runs smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer middle school STEM curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Employ accepted instructional methodology in teaching the touch method of keyboarding and help students refine that skill.
  • Develop lessons that meet state standards using strategies that engage students and involve the use of school‑issued Chromebooks.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instruction time.
  • Provide instruction on the use of technology, including computer network systems and applications.
  • Prepare instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
  • Instruct students in the care and safe operation of business equipment.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, research, and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Organize and maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff, especially within grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
Additional Duties
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Equipment
  • Use standard office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
  • May be issued a county‑owned teacher laptop for this position.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Work Schedule
  • Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Unit Contract.

  • Current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction.
  • Business education curriculum and concepts.
  • Data information systems, data analysis and formulation of action plans.
  • Applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:

  • Active TN State Certification as an MS technology/computer teacher.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or own transportation.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master's Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
