Core ResponsibilitiesMiddle school counselors are expected to:?
Academic Support
:
Assist students in course selection, goal setting, and academic planning.Social-Emotional Development

Provide individual and group counseling to address personal issues, peer relationships, and emotional well‑well-being.Career Exploration

Guide students in exploring career interests and postsecondary options.Crisis Intervention
:
Offer support during crises and collaborate with external agencies when necessary.Collaboration

Work with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.Program Development
:
Implement and evaluate school counseling programs that promote a positive school culture.
To serve as a school counselor, candidates must:?
Hold a master's degree in school counseling.
Obtain and maintain Tennessee state certification for school counseling.
Adhere to ethical standards.
