Special Education Teacher Self-Contained – High School
Fayette County Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join our school system. The successful candidate will perform duties customary to a high school teacher: preparing lessons toward mastery of state standards, collaborating with faculty, providing small group instruction, differentiating instruction and interventions, monitoring student progress, and communicating with parents and stakeholders.
An active Tennessee teaching license is required for this Special Education position with the proper endorsements for a Junior High School Self‑Contained classroom.

JOB GOALThe responsibilities of a special education educator include:
- Creating lesson plans and instructing students in accordance with state standards and their IEPs.
- Collaborating with teachers, staff, and administration to address student needs.
- Identifying and instructing high‑ability students in intellectual, specific academic, creative, arts, and leadership areas.
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting instruction accordingly.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
- Holder of a valid Tennessee certification license for Special Education – Self‑Contained classroom.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Effective decision‑making and verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly qualified in this area.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position is performed in a standard office and classroom environment. It requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and requires significant fine finger dexterity.
