Education Administration, Academic, University Professor
Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: The Provost guides the university’s academic programs, anticipates future developments in higher education and their impact on the university, identifies threats and opportunities and evaluates the needs to meet challenges effectively. The Provost provides leadership to academic programs and deans, student life, accreditation, institutional research, library, the Title IX coordinator and registrar.
Under the administrative direction of the university president responsible for all shifts, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day. Incumbents are subject to callback as required.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership & Program Oversight
Provide strategic and operational oversight of all academic colleges, schools, and programs, working collaboratively with deans to promote educational quality, innovation, and relevance.
Champion the development, review, and continuous improvement of academic curricula aligned with institutional mission, regional workforce needs, and accreditation standards.
Foster a culture of faculty excellence through recruitment, development, retention, and evaluation processes that support scholarly achievement and effective teaching.
Lead academic policy development and ensure consistent, equitable application of policies governing academic programs, standards, and faculty affairs.
Student Success & Student Life
Provide administrative oversight for Student Life, ensuring the co-curricular environment is aligned with academic mission and supports the holistic development of students.
Collaborate with student life professionals, enrollment management, and advising teams to improve retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
Champion initiatives that promote student engagement, well-being, and equitable access to educational resources.
Institutional Research
Oversee the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research to ensure the University maintains accurate, reliable, and actionable data to support decision-making, strategic planning, and compliance reporting.
Utilize institutional data to monitor academic performance, inform program review, and guide enrollment and resource strategies.
University Library
Provide leadership and support to the University Librarian in fulfilling the library's role as a core academic resource, ensuring collections, services, and technologies meet the evolving needs of students and faculty.
Office of the Registrar
Oversee the Registrar's Office to ensure excellence in enrollment services, academic records management, course scheduling, degree auditing, and compliance with federal and state reporting requirements.
Ensure the integrity and security of all academic records and student data in accordance with FERPA and applicable regulations.
Accreditation & Institutional Compliance
Serve as a primary institutional leader for SACSCOC accreditation compliance, reaffirmation processes, and any required monitoring or reporting obligations.
Provide direct oversight and support for academic programs subject to specialized or programmatic accreditation review, including programs currently on probationary status, ensuring timely and effective remediation plans are developed and executed.
Maintain current knowledge of regional and programmatic accreditation standards and proactively address areas of risk or concern.
Title IX Oversight
Provide oversight of the University’s Title IX compliance program through supervision of the Title IX Coordinator.
Enusre that institutional policies, procedures, and practices align with applicable federal and state laws.
Support institutional efforts to foster a campus environment free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
Strategic Planning & Senior Leadership
Serve as an active, engaged member of the President's Senior Leadership Team, contributing to institutional strategic planning, budget development, policy formulation, and crisis response.
Partner with the President and Board of Trustees as appropriate to advance the University's mission, vision, and long‑range academic strategy.
