Job Description
Purpose of the position: We are seeking a passionate and experienced High School Band Director to lead our school's band program. The Band Director will be responsible for fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment that promotes musical excellence and student engagement. This role involves directing band performances, teaching music classes, and facilitating a positive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage band performances: plan, organize, and direct school band performances, including concerts, football games, parades, and other community events.
- Curriculum development: develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum that meets the educational standards and goals of the school.
- Student instruction: teach music theory, instrumental techniques, and ensemble performance to students of varying skill levels.
- Leadership development: cultivate leadership skills within the band by appointing and training student leaders such as section leaders and drum majors.
- Budget management: manage the band program's budget, including fundraising efforts and allocation of funds for uniforms, instruments, travel, and other expenses.
- Recruitment and retention: actively recruit students to participate in the band program and work to retain them throughout their high school career.
- Collaboration:
collaborate with other music teachers and school staff to enhance the overall music education program. - Event planning: coordinate logistics for rehearsals, performances, competitions, and special events.
- Community engagement: engage with parents, alumni, and community members to build support for the band program.
- Professional development: stay updated on the latest music education techniques and participate in professional development opportunities.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification with a 429 Endorsement.
- Proven experience as a band director or music teacher, preferably in a high school setting.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in conducting and reading music.
- Ability to play and teach multiple band instruments is highly desirable.
