Job Description

Exceptional Child Education programs are designed to meet the needs of students whose approach to learning differs from that of their peers. The district commits to providing high‑quality education for students with disabilities. A variety of programs, techniques, methods, and materials are available and utilized for individualized instruction.

Program participation includes students with moderate to severe disabilities (MSD), mild mental disabilities (MMD), other health impairments (OHI), emotional‑behavioral disabilities (EBD), autism (AUT), visual impairment (VI), hearing impairment (HI), learning disabilities (LD), social communication, or a combination of these areas. Assignment changes may occur during a school year or between years due to student and classroom needs.

All duties are supportive, including assisting in implementing each student's Individual Education Plan, and helping to establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Staff should display willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours.
• Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.
• Physical ability and willingness to assist with physical needs of students such as positioning, toileting, and lifting.
• Willingness to attend district ECE in‑service for professional growth.
• Effective communication skills.
• If the highest education is High School or GED, must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam.
• Applicants with transcripts obtained outside the U.S. must have credentials evaluated before consideration.

Grade 1A, Salary Range: $18.27/hr – $20.07/hr.

Working Calendar: 187 days per year, 7 hours per day.

Stipends:
Critical Need $3.50/hr; ECE Instructional Assistant $1.00/hr.
