Special Education Teacher – Self-Contained (Elementary School)
Fayette County Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join our school system. The successful candidate will perform duties customary to an elementary school teacher, including preparing lessons to meet state standards, collaborating with faculty, delivering small‑group instruction, differentiating instruction, and providing interventions. The teacher will also work with administrators and coaches to improve performance, monitor students, and communicate with parents and stakeholders.
Developing and administering assessments, instructing students in accordance with their IEPs, and holding IEP meetings are required.
Term: 10 months.
Responsibilities- Provide an instructional program that is differentiated and challenging.
- Commit to high student achievement and support all students.
- Develop and implement consistent special education programming at the district level.
- Exercise various teaching strategies to increase students’ critical‑thinking skills.
- Create a secure climate and respond to inquiries from a variety of sources.
- Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
- Administer and develop subject‑specific assessments for assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Participate in meetings and professional development activities for conveying and gathering information necessary to perform functions.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Prepare written materials to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
- Assist classroom teachers to provide instruction to high achievers.
- Use available technology in lessons.
- Communicate effectively with parents and students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
- Active Tennessee teaching license with endorsements for Special Education – Self‑Contained.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Effective decision‑making and verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly qualified in the subject area.
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
