Job Summary

The 7th and 8th Grade Science Teacher guides middle school students through foundational concepts in Earth, Space, Life, and Physical sciences. This role focuses on implementing the Tennessee Academic Standards for Science, fostering critical thinking through the 5E Instructional Model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate), and preparing students for state assessments.

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
  • Design daily lessons aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards for Science.
  • Incorporate three-dimensional learning:
    Science/Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas.
  • Lead hands-on laboratory experiments, safety demonstrations, and inquiry-based activities.
  • Utilize data from benchmarks and Formative Assessment Frameworks to drive instruction.
  • Differentiate lessons to accommodate English Learners (EL), 504 plans, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Classroom & Lab Management
  • Establish and enforce strict safety contracts and laboratory procedures for students.
  • Maintain proper storage, inventory, and disposal of scientific chemicals and equipment.
  • Create a positive, structured classroom culture focused on academic growth.
  • Maximize instructional time through efficient transitions and clear routines.
Professionalism & Collaboration
  • Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) with fellow science educators.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
  • Engage in the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) teacher evaluation process.
  • Complete required state and district professional development hours annually.
Qualifications & Requirements Education & Licensing
  • Degree
    :
    Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • License
    :
    Valid Tennessee Teaching License with an active endorsement in Middle Grades Science (6-8) or Secondary Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Earth Science (6-12).
Knowledge & Skills
  • Standards
    :
    Deep understanding of Tennessee Next Generation Science standards.
  • Technology
    :
    Proficiency with classroom tech like interactive whiteboards, digital lab probes, and online learning platforms (e.g., Canvas, Google Classroom).
  • Testing
    :
    Familiarity with TCAP blueprinting and middle school science assessment styles.
