Principal - H.Y. Livesay Middle School

Middle School Principal (Grades 5-8) in a Tennessee public school acts as the primary instructional leader and chief administrator, reporting directly to the district superintendent. This role focuses on student safety, staff performance, and managing the unique academic and social-emotional needs of young adolescents.

• Instructional Leadership: Implement Tennessee Academic Standards and ensure preparation for TCAP testing.
• Data-Driven Improvement: Analyze student growth data, such as TVAAS, to inform academic interventions.
• Staff Evaluation: Conduct teacher observations using the state-mandated TEAM rubric.
• Operations & Culture: Manage daily school operations, budget, and student discipline.
• Community Engagement: Foster partnerships with parents, staff, and community organizations.

• Athletic Events: Act as the primary administrator-on-duty for home basketball, football, or track games to manage crowd control, supervise student sections, and support local TMSAA sportsmanship standards.
• School Community Nights: Oversee mandatory evening school functions, including back-to-school Open Houses, Title I family math/science nights, student orientations, and 8th-grade promotion or graduation ceremonies.
• Arts & Performance Programs: Attend and support after-school band concerts, choir performances, theater productions, and art showcases.

• School Board & District Meetings: Attend evening district school board meetings, county commission budget hearings, or superintendent briefings as the official representative of the school.
• Parent & Community Advocacy: Lead evening Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) meetings and facilitate late-afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences or critical student disciplinary hearings.
• Emergency IEP & 504 Support: Remain available after hours to chair or finalize extended Individualized Education Program (IEP) reviews, manifestation determinations, or 504 placement meetings.

• On-Call Crisis Response: Act as the first point of contact for late-night building alarms, facilities issues (such as plumbing or HVAC failures), or school bus transit emergencies.
• SRO Liaison: Coordinate after hours with the School Resource Officer (SRO) and local law enforcement regarding any community threats, social media safety concerns, or vandalism on school property.

• Qualifications: Requires a Master's degree, valid Tennessee Instructional Leader License (ILL), and experience in K-12 teaching.
• Licensure: Must meet all TASL compliance requirements and pass required background checks.
• Schedule: Often requires 11-12 month contracts, including evenings for events and school activities.
