An 6th Grade Science Teacher in a Tennessee public school instructs middle school students in foundational concepts across Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences, strictly aligned with the Tennessee Academic Standards for Science. This role requires a valid Tennessee teaching license with an Elementary (K-5/K-6) or Middle Grades Science endorsement. Beyond standard school hours, teachers are required to attend evening community events, parent conferences, and professional development sessions
Core Responsibilities- Instruction: Plan and deliver standard-aligned lessons focusing on core 6th-grade concepts like Earth's weather patterns, climate, ecosystems, and energy transformation.
- Lab Safety & Management: Organize, set up, and safely supervise hands‑on laboratory experiments, engineering design challenges, and STEM learning activities.
- Data-Driven Differentiation: Use classroom assessments and benchmark data to modify instruction for diverse learners, English language learners, and students with special needs.
- Communication: Partner with parents, specialized instructional coaches, and administrators to track, report, and support student academic growth.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences: Attend mandatory evening sessions to review academic performance, behavioral growth, and classroom progress with families.
- Open House & Science Nights: Participate in annual back-to-school nights and Title I STEM, robotics, or family science community outreach events.
- Staff & PLC Meetings: Remain after school for required faculty workshops, data-focused Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and 504/IEP student placement reviews.
- Extracurricular
Activities:
Chaperone school dances, supervise middle school field trips, or voluntarily sponsor clubs like Science Olympiad, Eco-Clubs, or robotics teams.
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Licensure: Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement codes (e.g., 123 - Middle Grades Science 6-8, 013 - Middle Grades 4-8, 420 - General Science 6-12, or 1201 - Elementary Education K-6).
- Testing: Passing score on the required Praxis subject assessment for Tennessee licensure.
