Special Education Teacher – Self-Contained, Junior High School (Somerville, TN)

Fayette County Public Schools seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join our specialized education team. The successful candidate will design and implement instructional programs for students in a self‑contained setting, providing differentiation and interventions aligned with state standards and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities

Prepare lessons that promote mastery of state standards.
Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and coaches to improve student performance.
Deliver small‑group instruction and provide targeted interventions.
Develop and administer assessments to monitor student progress.
Teach students according to their IEPs, and chair IEP meetings.
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and mandated reporting requirements.
Participate in professional development and district‑wide special education initiatives.
Use technology effectively in instruction.
Respond to emergencies and ensure a safe learning environment.
Assist classroom teachers in supporting high‑achieving students.
Communicate regularly with parents and legal guardians regarding student progress and expectations.
Prepare written materials for student progress reports and legal documentation.
Adhere to a 10‑month term schedule and maintain consistent attendance.
Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.

Develop and implement consistent special education programming at the district level.

Employ various teaching strategies to enhance students’ critical‑thinking skills.

Instruct students to improve academic success through a directed course of study.

Administer and develop subject‑specific assessments for competency evaluation.

Participate in meetings and professional development activities.

Advise parents/legal guardians on student progress, achievements, and improvement methods.

Prepare written materials documenting progress to meet mandated requirements.

Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.

Assist classroom teachers with instruction for high‑achieving students.

Integrate available technology into lessons.

Communicate effectively with parents and students.

Perform other duties as directed by administration.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Active Tennessee teaching license with endorsements for Special Education – Self‑Contained Junior High.
Demonstrated organizational and decision‑making skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
High level of professional competency in the specialized area.
