Company Description The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region empower young people, especially those facing the greatest challenges, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The organization operates Clubs in 6 counties across the Ocoee region, with continued growth planned. Priority programs focus on academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles, providing structured support and mentorship for children and teens.

Regional headquarters are located at 385 3rd Street, Cleveland, TN 37311, and team members collaborate across sites to serve youth effectively.

Role Description The Youth Development Specialist is a part-time, on-site role based in Decatur, TN, responsible for delivering safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate programs to youth. Day-to-day responsibilities include facilitating activities that support academic success, leadership, and healthy lifestyles; providing consistent mentorship; and maintaining positive relationships with youth, families, and community partners. The role involves creating structured program plans, encouraging participation, managing group dynamics, and ensuring that the Club environment is inclusive and respectful.

The Youth Development Specialist also supports data collection and reporting, follows organizational policies and safety procedures, and collaborates with other staff to coordinate events and special initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Positive Youth Development and Youth Development practices, with experience working directly with children and teens in group settings.
  • Effective Communication skills, including active listening, clear instruction, and constructive feedback tailored to diverse youth and family audiences.
  • Background in Education or related fields, with the ability to support homework help, tutoring, and enrichment activities.
  • Experience delivering Training or workshops for youth, and contributing to program planning and implementation.
  • Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment, demonstrating cultural competency and respect for diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with reliability in maintaining schedules and documentation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to meet background check requirements and adhere to all youth protection and safety guidelines.
