Job Summary

Mechanical Power Conversion (MPC) is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead cross‑functional teams and manage the schedule and budget for new products across pumping and gearbox technologies. The role requires strong technical knowledge of machine design, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and structural dynamics.

Location:

Rockford, IL (Hybrid – onsite and remote)

Responsibilities
  • Provide clear, concise communication with peers and Collins leadership.
  • Identify mitigation plans for impacted project.
  • Pursue cost‑saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
  • Conduct meetings and consolidate, present progress reports relating to business aspects of the project.
  • Identify and react to project problems and recommend solutions, including reallocating resources or changing contractual specifications.
  • Oversee and coordinate administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects within program guidelines.
  • Act as liaison between project management, planning, project teams, and production line management.
  • Review project and budget status, manage schedules, and prepare reports.
  • Manage and coordinate hardware development configurations throughout the engineering process.
  • Monitor and assess project issues; develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer‑satisfaction goals.
  • Meet program schedules and budgets; maintain master schedules for the project.
  • Coordinate hardware equipment modifications throughout development.
  • Complete gated reviews throughout a project to ensure optimal schedule efficiency.
  • Understand and execute test procedures.
  • Analyze, interpret, and report test results.
  • Verify internal processes are executed to reduce probability of engineering setbacks.
  • Read and interpret drawings, provide mark‑ups, and coordinate drawing releases.
Qualifications
  • Typical requirements: a STEM degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Preferred:
    Mechanical Engineering degree;
    Master’s in Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, or MBA.
  • Professional certifications:
    Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Experience:

    production role supporting aerospace rotating equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with mechanical hardware.
Compensation

Salary range: $86,800–$165,200

USD.
