Job Summary

As a Product Engineer II at Aero Vironment, you will sustain engineering support for UAV and missile systems used in military and commercial applications. Your responsibilities include design modifications of structural components, electro‑mechanical assemblies, payloads, ground equipment, launching systems, flight control actuators, prototype hardware development, performing design verification testing, and managing product configuration. You will develop and maintain manufacturing drawings and bills of materials in accordance with industry drafting standards, support design reviews, assist project managers with planning and scheduling, and collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to produce mechanical components and assemblies.

Position

Responsibilities
  • Sustain engineering support related to a product line.
  • Manage product line configuration and change orders in the Agile PLM system.
  • Understand product design and features, manufacturing processes, customer performance and configuration requirements.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for ongoing support and change initiation, including managing manufacturing and customer issues escalated to engineering.
  • Assist in proposal and report writing and review of contracts for production orders.
  • Coordinate the transition of new products and variants into production.
  • Release and update engineering design documentation, operator manuals, bill of materials, manufacturing procedures, product acceptance test procedures, and production tooling and test equipment.
  • Coordinate development, testing and release of product improvements and variants in cooperation with product line manager, design engineers and project managers.
  • Provide component obsolescence management and customer support for failure analysis and field bulletin technical content.
  • Work with suppliers, purchasing and planning to resolve technical issues that impact production.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience or Green Belt certification.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a similar engineering design role with support of products in production.
  • Experience with unmanned air vehicles, RF, digital and communications electronics design, electronics manufacturing, troubleshooting, PCB layout, schematics and assembly.
  • Design/drafting/CAD experience (Altium), including ASME Y14 drawing standards.
  • Ability to solve basic structural dynamics problems.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles.
  • Understanding of General Engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, material properties, electronics, systems and software.
  • Knowledge of requirements for building production assemblies and documentation for use on the production floor.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate across technical disciplines and organizations, including program management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers and customers.
  • Proficiency with office software and computer‑based productivity tools.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
  • Experience with Agile PLM data management and product configuration management standards (MILHDBK‑61A, EIA‑649‑B).
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and contributes to meeting project cost and schedule.
  • Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues and completes tasks within schedule and budget.
  • Works on moderate‑scope problems requiring analysis of various factors.
