Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Huntsville
Leidos’ Ground Based Radar Digitization (GBRD) program is seeking a highly experienced Project Engineer to lead emplacement of new and innovative radar systems. This is a large, multi-phase radar program with concurrent development, test, production, and sustainment activities. You will serve as the technical authority across multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring design integrity, technical performance, and disciplined engineering execution. The role requires a systems-minded leader with the ability to direct technical work based on cost, schedule, risk, and requirements.
Frequent travel to emplacement sites may be required.
- Lead mechanical engineering for site emplacement of a new digitized radar system; ensure all mechanical tasks are completed for your assigned site.
- Serve as the primary mechanical engineering point of contact, with frequent site travel.
- Act as site technical lead for engineering execution, system performance, and requirements compliance.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, site layouts, and mechanical schematics for accurate implementation across all project phases.
- Collaborate with design, analysis, and fabrication teams to resolve mechanical challenges and optimize installation.
- Manage and document mechanical site survey data, including measurements, as-built conditions, and equipment inventories.
- Provide guidance on mechanical modifications, upgrades, and retrofits for site readiness and system compatibility.
- Track project progress and coordinate mechanical resources to meet milestones for decommissioning legacy systems, installing temporary solutions to maintain mission readiness, and final system emplacement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- BS + 12 years progressive engineering experience, or MS + 10 years.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with formal design reviews (PDR/CDR), configuration management, and risk management.
- Basic understanding of radar systems and signal processing.
- Active DoD security clearance (or eligibility to obtain).
- Willing to travel frequently.
- Experience with radar, EO/IR, or other advanced sensing technologies.
