CAD Designer I

The CAD Designer I is responsible for creating and updating CAD designs and drawings for precast concrete vault buildings and precast utility products. This role uses CAD software to support building construction projects, prepares detailed documentation, and contributes to continuous improvement within a collaborative design and production team.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed precast concrete vaulted building designs and construction drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develop complete submittal packages, including proposal drawings and final production drawing sets.
  • Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) from manufacturing instructions and engineering drawings.
  • Apply basic knowledge of general building construction and precast concrete products to ensure accurate and buildable designs.
  • Follow established drafting standards and principles to maintain consistency and quality across all drawings.
  • Collaborate with team members and provide suggestions for continual improvement of design and drafting processes.
  • Use Autodesk tools and Microsoft Excel to organize, track, and update design data and related documentation.
  • Work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment and follow all applicable safety procedures.
  • Perform all other related drafting and design duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience using AutoCAD.
  • Experience producing Bills of Materials (BOMs) from drawings and manufacturing instructions.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk products, including Revit, Inventor 3D, and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Solid understanding of drafting standards and principles.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, hyperlinks, and sorting and searching data.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as volumes, simple load calculations, metric equivalents, and drawing scales.
  • Strong attention to detail in all design and documentation work.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Drafter certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated desire to continue to grow and develop professionally.
  • Experience working with precast concrete products or general building construction is beneficial.
  • Ability to contribute ideas for process and design improvements within a collaborative team setting.

Work Environment

This is an on-site office-based role within an industrial manufacturing setting. The CAD Designer I works primarily in an office environment using Autodesk design software and Microsoft Excel on standard office computer equipment, while collaborating closely with production and engineering teams supporting a precast concrete manufacturing operation. The work involves regular interaction with technical drawings, digital design tools, and manufacturing documentation in a setting that follows established safety procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Loudon, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
