Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and two years of full‑time professional experience in one or more of the following areas: probation/parole, counseling, social work, investigative, or law enforcement.

Pre‑employment drug screening and a criminal background check are required. Applicants must provide a criminal history disclosure form and agree to release all records related to their criminal history to the appointing authority.

Substitution of Graduate Course Work for Experience

Graduate course work credit received from an accredited college or university in social science, behavioral science, criminal justice, criminology, social work, and/or law may substitute for required experience up to a maximum of two years. For example, an additional 36 graduate quarter hours in one or a combination of the listed fields may substitute for one year of experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications
  • Citizen of the United States with good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority.
  • Agree to release all records involving one's criminal history to the appointing authority.
  • Supply a fingerprint sample for a fingerprint‑based criminal history records check.
  • No felony conviction or domestic assault convictions; no dishonorable discharge from any branch of the U.S. armed forces.
  • Pass a pre‑employment screening test for illegal drugs.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment.
Overview

Under general direction, this supervisory classification in the Institutional Prob/Par Specialist series is responsible for professional probation and parole administrative work of average difficulty. The holder supervises personnel and acts as a liaison between the Department of Correction and the Board of Parole within an institutional prison/jail to ensure timely and efficient parole hearings. This position is not commissioned and differs from the Institutional Prob/Par Regional Manager in that the latter supervises teams within a particular region.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise personnel and act as liaison between Department of Correction and Board of Parole.
  • Coordinate Parole Grant and Revocation hearings, ensuring necessary components are available and minimizing disruption.
  • Review parole dockets, notify prison wardens and staff of upcoming hearings, deliver parole‑related notifications to inmates, and enter contact notes in the Offender Management System.
  • Execute and deliver Community Supervision for Life certificates to the offender, institutional records staff, supervising Probation/Parole Officer, and Board Operations.
  • Serve, scan, and mail notification letters of the parole board's final decision.
  • Complete offender profiles, interview offenders, and calculate average time served per monthly docket.
  • Maintain certificate log, request rescission hearings, and update program changes.
  • Verify electronic paperwork, screen for missing material, and track status.
  • Scan offender profiles, release plans, letters of support/opposition, and certificates into the electronic paperless system.
  • Hold pre‑hearing classes for inmates per policy.
  • Serve parole notice of charges and waivers to violators and handle all release plan information for inmates.
