Responsibilities
Mountain Youth Academy is a 120‑bed residential treatment facility located in Mountain City, Tennessee, near Johnson City, TN;
Boone, NC; and Abingdon, VA. We evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of behavioral health issues for young adolescent patients.
Residential Counselor provides direct individual and group treatment and other patient‑care duties for patients with psychiatric disorders, addictive or substance‑abuse disorders, or dual diagnoses. The role requires maintaining the therapeutic milieu, ensuring safety for patients and staff, and collaborating with supervisors and management.
Job duties include:
- Complete non‑clinical assignments related to admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Ascertain patient needs and assist with treatment goals under supervisor direction.
- Collaborate with team members and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
- Document and report patient progress or regression.
- Follow agency policies, daily schedules, and safety procedures.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s Degree acceptable;
Bachelor’s Degree with one year of health‑care experience preferred.
Required skills:
- Verbal de‑escalation skills.
- Quick decision‑making and crisis response.
- Effective communication and teamwork.
- Leadership as a community lead.
- Mentoring/shadowing as assigned.
- Base pay $18‑$22 per hour; degrees and prior experience increase hourly rate.
- Shift differentials $2‑$5; frequent overtime opportunities.
- Full‑time availability: 3 days/week, 8, 12, or 16‑hour shifts.
- Weekend shifts available at 36 hours.
