, is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join their practice. This is a full-time opportunity. The position performs a range of duties including preparing patients for the Attending Physician (preliminary exam, medical history, & testing), preparing examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments, and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
The Ophthalmic Technician will train other assistants and act as a scribe for the physician.
- Take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity. Perform lensometry, refractometry, basic muscle balance testing, tonometry, assess pupils, confrontation visual fields, and gross external exam. Administer diagnostic tests.
- Make introductions and establish rapport with patients. Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines. Also assist with patient education.
- Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), Optical Biometry (IOL Master and Lensstar).
- Act as a scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into EMR and overseeing patient flow.
- Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
- Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart.
- Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre‑ and post‑operative instructions as directed by physician.
- Assists with in‑office procedures ensuring proper consent is obtained. Responsible for set‑up and clean‑up from procedure.
- Assists in training other assistants.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
- Comply with all practice procedures and protocols, and with all state and federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report suspected potential errors to supervisor or compliance officer.
- Maintain a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self‑motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Return patient phone calls/answering questions or concerns.
- Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down appropriately, battery‑powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers.
- Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines.
- Perform related work as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED.
ExperienceNone required; 1 year ophthalmic experience preferred.
Certification/LicenseNone required. (COMT) Certified Ophthalmic Technologist Credential preferred.
