You’ll Be Doing

The Medical Assistant/Patient Services Specialist is responsible for assisting the team in both the front office and back office in the care of patients to assure optimal delivery of medical care.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Check patients in and obtain patient information utilizing the web-based on-site
  • Schedule appointments and follow-up with appointments as needed
  • Collect and post proper patient payment, including print appropriate receipts
  • Perform insurance eligibility checks prior to patient appointments
  • Answer all phone calls timely, and in a professional and courteous manner
  • Route calls and messages appropriately
  • Effectively communicate with all staff and providers amongst all clinics
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned
  • Perform all relevant medical tasks including collecting vital signs, phlebotomy, performing EKGs and other minor diagnostics/treatments, administering injections and routine immunizations, assisting Provider with minor procedures, quality control testing, and maintaining CLIA waiver log, etc. as needed
  • Prepare patient charts including DIs, referrals, preventative screeners, labs, and DMEs as needed
  • Gather personal and clinical information from patient, readies paperwork and communicates information to care team as appropriate as needed
  • Participate in developing and updating of HPI, Social History, vitals, assessment and plans for patients as needed
  • Communicate with patients and their family to put them at ease as needed
  • Maintain medical supply inventory for clinic; keeps patient rooms stocked with supplies as appropriate as needed
  • Process various types of medication refills as needed
  • Schedules patient appointments, per scheduling guidelines as needed
  • Process patient referrals, prior authorizations and DME; schedule and coordinate appointments with specialists and outside organizations as needed as needed
  • Manage incoming and outgoing information/records received from specialists, hospitals, and emergency rooms; appropriately indexes documents as needed
  • Accurately update patient information in the EMR (i.e. demographics, contact preferences, insurance information etc.) as needed
  • Identify the health maintenance needs before welcoming the patient to the exam room as needed
  • Preview the schedule in advance, re-evaluates it throughout the day; tracks the flow of the clinic schedule to keep team on track and on time as needed
  • Collaborate with provider to ensure patients receive appropriate counseling and health education at time of visit or via telephonic follow-up (i.e. explanation of lab results, glucometer and inhaler teaching, chronic disease education, etc.) as needed
  • Manage influx of clinical triage calls; conducts appropriate triage over the phone and assesses whether patient can be treated telephonically or needs to be seen by provider as needed
  • Work in partnership with team members; collaborates with care team to ensure patient’s healthcare needs are being met
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 1-2 years recent experience in urgent or primary care setting
  • Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable transportation
  • Must have experience in phlebotomy/venipuncture
  • Ability to communicate effective with Providers and others to resolve issues
  • Ability to demonstrate reliability and responsiveness to patients, families, and co-workers
